La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities:
Broadening horizons through fun and educational cultural exchange.
What is a Sister City?
A Sister City is a broad-based, long-term partnership between two communities in two countries. A relationship is officially recognized after the highest elected or appointed official from both communities sign off on an agreement to become sister cities. It is a relationship between cities to help build and foster people-to-people diplomacy.
La Cañada Flintridge Sister Cities Association is proud to be an official branch of Sister Cities International. SCI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building relationships between the United States and other countries through its mission of promoting peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation—one individual, one community at a time.
The official Sister City of La Cañada Flintridge is Villanueva de la Cañada, a suburb of Madrid, Spain.
Student Programs
We are thrilled to support La Cañada Flintridge students with an annual participation in the International Space Academy program at JPL, as well as participation in the Sister Cities International Youth Leadership Summit in Washington, DC and the LCHS middle school spring break trips to Villanueva de La Cañada.
Artist-in-Residence
The 2025 Artist-in-Residence is composer Óscar Navarro. Our special event featuring him will take place on November 1, 2025. Learn more and donate now to participate in what’s sure to be a memorable event, which will also showcase the music of the LCHS Chamber Singers and the Pasadena Youth Symphony.
Community Connections
Our program has been able to foster relationships between La Cañada community leaders, scientists, artists, students, and more through cultural and educational exchange. In addition, we have held a joint City Council meeting for the past four years in real time with the City Council of La Cañada Flintridge and the City Council of Villanueva de La Cañada.

Welcome! ¡Bienvenido! Become a member today and support our growth.
“Hi Sister Cities—I am now studying abroad in Toledo, Spain and recently met up with two girls I connected with through Sister Cities. Wishing you all the best!”
